Periodontal
problems are caused by plaque, a colorless film of bacteria that forms
on the teeth. Plaque irritates the gums, causing them to be red, tender
and sometimes swollen. If plaque is not removed, it becomes hard forming
calculus (tartar) around the teeth. Eventually, the calculus or plaque
starts to destroy the gum that attaches the teeth. This process forms
pockets. The pockets become filled with more plaque, again causing more
damage to the jawbone, which supports the teeth.
Periodontal disease, which progresses slowly, doesn't cause any problem
to the patient. Most people who have gum disease are unaware that they
are having it. When diagnosed early the disease can be arrested and the
teeth can be saved.
Treatment of the gum condition depends on the phase of the disease. Considering
that the dentist might apply medical treatment, physical therapy or resort
to antibiotic.
How to avoid periodontal
condition?
•
Trough personal hygiene of the teeth and mouth. Consider that the
automatic tooth brushes clean the teeth better the regular ones. Moreover
you might use tooth shower, which removes the food particles and plaque,
and also it is refreshing.
• Have your calculus remove by the
dentist every six months.
• Preventive dental check-ups two times
a year. It will allow the dentist to come to right diagnosis and prevent
the further development.
